Jim Shawvan is an astrological teacher and consultant, specializing in relocation and travel as well as electional, horary, karmic, natal, predictive, and relationship astrology. He holds one of the first Certified Astrology Professional certificates (CAP) issued by the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR). Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 24 June 1942 at 4:30 am Central War Time (data from birth certificate). This gives an Ascendant of 20 Gemini.
Jim attended Cornell University, majoring in cultural anthropology and minoring in structural linguistics. He moved to San Francisco in 1964, shortly before the birth of the Hippie phenomenon. There he was active in opposing the Vietnam War from the very start. He has worked as a cab driver, mail carrier, postal clerk, computer programmer, systems analyst, and Realtor(R).
From 1989 to 1997, Jim was the Technical Astrologer at Neil Michelsen's Astro Communications Services, handling the most difficult questions and orders.
Jim has lived and traveled in many cities and countries, and has been testing the astrology of relocation and travel in his own life since 1971. In addition to helping people pick the right place to live, he specializes in selecting vacation times and places to get the best results from Solar Returns and other Return charts.
Jim lives, practices, and teaches in San Diego County, California. He teaches courses in Predictive Astrology as well as workshops and courses on Electional Astrology, Horary Astrology, and how to use the Solar Fire and Solar Maps software programs, among other topics. He is also available for one-on-one tutoring in person or by phone.
Jim has lectured to various astrological organizations and conferences on advanced topics including electional, predictive, locational, and relationship astrology. See the Lectures page of this web site for a list of topics and tapes.
Jim served three terms as President of the San Diego Astrological Society (SDAS) -- two terms from 1990 to 1994, and again in 2001-2002. In between, he served SDAS as Director of Membership, and again served in that capacity until 2005. In years past, he also served as Program Coordinator for the Vision '93 and Vision '94 conferences held at the Del Mar Hilton in North San Diego County.
Jim has lived most of his adult life in San Diego, San Francisco/Oakland, and Honolulu. He has lived for extended periods in Boston, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Madeira and Brazil. He speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and reads French well, and (with more effort) reads Italian, German and a number of other languages.
